Planning a staycation

With some International travel set to resume but most things still up in the air, now is a great tine to get planning a staycation for the summer. Living in the UK, we have so many great destinations on our doorstep, that admittedly we do take for granted from time to time. So pack your layers, your waterproof and your wellies just in case and get planning that trip away with the family…

Choosing a destination

Arguably the hardest part of the entire planning process, choosing and agreeing on a destination. Whether you’re a beach-lover, country-explorer or a fan of a city break, we are blessed with so many places to choose from right here in the UK. We are fans of Scotland and Cornwall, the Lakes and the Peaks and Bristol and Bath if you are looking for some city-living. Our advice is to do your research and to find a destination that ticks all your boxes.

The accommodation

The next step is working out where you are going to rest your head for the night. With campsites back open and running that is always an option, or maybe you prefer a hotel? AirBnb and sites like that are always a good shout too but make sure you get planning and booking soon as many people will have the same idea.

Activity planning

Scout out the local area so you can get a handle on some of the things you would like to do when you are there! While we are big fans of spontaneity, there is something to be said for having a few plans in your back pocket, particularly ones for a rainy day if you don’t like getting wet!

Budgeting while you are there

This one comes from experience. It is so easy to get carried away while spending on holiday and a staycation doesn’t seem to curb that. Plan what you would like to spend and see a daily budget or similar so you don’t end up with no spending money on day two of your week-long break!

Exploring beyond

While it is great to check out where you are staying, sometimes the best adventures come from just outside… Make sure to travel a little further afield if you are able to and speak to locals as well to see what they would recommend.

Pack for all eventualities

We know that the weather is like, and it is important to pack for all eventualities. Even if the forecast says otherwise, make sure you are equipped for the sun and the rain too, so you don’t have to do a supermarket dash for spare clothes etc. Don’t forget to pack suncream too!

Car checks

Before you head out on the trip, make sure you have given all the necessary checks to your car. Whether it be taking it to the garage for a once over, or checking the vitals yourself, it is important that everything is in working order before you head for the road. Tyres should be inflated, fluids topped up and everything checked to be working correctly.

Enjoy yourselves

Last but not least, enjoy yourselves! Even if you had a big summer trip planned abroad we can assure you that you will have a wonderful time when holidaying in this county. There is so much to see and do so take it all in, and enjoy yourself. Maybe even get a disposable camera for the trip so you can get some proper printed photos afterwards!
