Choosing cash or finance - NMG - Peterborough
Looking for your next car? You may be wondering how you are going to fund it! If this is the case, read on for our guide to cash or finance, so you can decide which method is right for you.
Now, the first thing to note is that everyone is different and everyone's circumstances will be different too, so it is always best to speak to an expert so you can decide which route is right for you. There are benefits to both, so make sure you do your own research and don’t dive into anything too quickly!
Let’s start with cash, the king we all know about. Paying outright for a car used to be the only way to fund a vehicle. There are plenty of advantages to doing this, such as not being tied to monthly payments, which can be a big weight lifted off your shoulders. Another benefit would be that the car is totally yours from the offset, and you don’t have to worry about the car being owned by someone else, or even having to buy it off them or the company at the end of the agreement.
Onto car finance, which has its own set of benefits too…
The first one being that there are so many different types of finance and deals out there to choose from. This means that there is a whole world waiting and you will be able to find a deal that works for your budget and your lifestyle. There are so many lenders as well, so your chances of being approved are increased too. By splitting the payments, it makes buying a new used car more accessible and affordable, plus you may be able to afford a nicer or a newer car than what you would have if you had saved up the cash to buy outright…
If you are looking for your next car and wondering how to fund it, here are some things you should consider before you make your choice…
What is your budget?
Think about how much you want to spend on a vehicle. It sounds obvious but it is something we see overlooked so often. Work out your budget and make sure you stick to it, as it is tempting to stray away when you see something you like.
Have you worked out what you could spend each month on finance?
That budget applies to finance too, you may have a cash budget in mind, but have you considered how much you could spend each month on finance? Work it out and make sure you stick to it when you are searching.
Is the car and the deal a practical decision?
Is the car you are looking at practical? Think about what you are going to be using it for and work our whether or not it is a sensible decision. Think with your head and not your heart here, else you could end up with something completely impractical!
What are you searching for?
Write a list of all the things you want or need in the car so you know what it is you are searching for. The car works can be overwhelming and so, it is important that you have your list and your goals set before you start that search.
Is this a long term commitment?
Finance is a long term commitment, but so is buying a car! Think about how long you are going to keep it for and that should hopefully help you make your decision on whether to opt for cash or finance.
